After the fuck

The Master’s thesis ● After the fuck is an examination of the topic of abortion from socio-political and socio-cultural perspectives. It moves across different media – from a book to a poster series to an installation in a space – always at the intersection of design and research.

The thesis examines how abortion is dealt with in Germany and, in this context, the relationship between church and state, the New Right, traditional gender roles, patriarchal structures, anti-feminist movements, goals and achievements of feminism, and particularly the social construction of emotions.

In the debate about ending unwanted pregnancies, anti-emancipatory narratives dominate. These affect the attitude towards and experience of abortions. The work promotes new, feminist narratives and calls for an emancipatory approach to ending unwanted pregnancies.

The Master’s thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Anke Haarmann and Prof. Heike Grebin and won the ›Ausgezeichnet‹ award from the Center for Design Research for research-oriented, excellent Master’s theses.
