Lemonized

The Bachelor thesis ● Lemonized is a visual exploration of the lemon and was supervised by Prof. Günter Woyte. The result is a mono-thematic book – a book for everyone and an all-encompassing book.

It transports versatile knowledge about the lemon by addressing questions such as: What does it mean when I dream of a lemon? In which literary texts does a lemon appear and what does it symbolize? What are lemons and how are they structured? What can be made from and with lemons? What recipes highlight the lemon as a key ingredient? How does lemon affect the human body? Why does lemon taste sour? Why is a lemon yellow?

In the context of choosing a topic for the thesis, I dealt with the following question: What can design do? And so, beyond all the stories about lemons – whether from a biological, chemical, culinary, medical or cultural-historical perspective – this Bachelor thesis is also about raising awareness of the complexity of an everyday, sometimes banal object.

The book approaches the object of the lemon gradually. The content is structured as an imaginary zooming in on the lemon – later into the lemon – until the examination on the molecular level. It is as if the reader first only hears the word lemon, then stories about the lemon, later holds a lemon in his hand, smells it, feels its rough skin and finally bites into it and lets its plump fruit sacs burst. Thus, the lemon is examined from all conceivable perspectives.
